Why Reykjavik

The language barrier dissolves almost immediately. English is so widely spoken that you rarely need Icelandic beyond basic pleasantries. You can get around independently, ask questions, adjust plans, solve problems through direct conversation.

The downtown core, where most attractions, restaurants and accommodation cluster, spans roughly a kilometer. You can walk Laugavegur end to end in about twenty minutes.

Iceland’s literary heritage is strong. The country is regularly cited as publishing among the most books per capita in the world. Museums and galleries offer depth without pretension. The food is New Nordic cuisine, fresh seafood and inventive interpretations of traditional ingredients.

And then there is the landscape: the rift at Þingvellir, Gullfoss, the black sand at Reynisfjara and northern lights that appear without warning. You can see them on your own schedule, from a comfortable base.
