SAMPLE

The Arrival

Step off the train at Central Station and the first lesson is that Copenhagen does not perform for visitors: the platforms are efficient, well lit and plain, and nobody is watching you. Outside, there are more bicycles than cars, ridden by people of every age in ordinary clothes, carrying groceries and children.

The bicycles are everywhere because the city is built for them: dedicated lanes on the main streets, racks outside most shops, and Donkey Republic’s orange share bikes parked across the center. Renting one is the fastest way to see how the districts fit together; the rules are in The Solo Woman’s Copenhagen.
