PRACTICAL SAMPLE

Eating Alone: Where It Is Easiest

Café Tacuba has a counter and small tables. At Stadtkeller the show carries the whole evening, with communal seating. The Old Swiss House’s schnitzel trolley is pleasant to watch from a table for one, and reservations can be made online. Olivo, described above, is the lakefront choice. Wirtshaus Taube is plain and local. The wine bar above Brasserie Bodu suits a solo plate, and Phanat Thai’s dine-in and takeaway make an easy solo lunch in the Old Town. At Restaurant Fritschi, Thai Garden and Restaurant GoldenIndia, ask for a small table when you reserve online; Thai Lanna is small, so check ahead. La Bestia, Restaurant Bündnerland and Fondue House du Pont, below, are all comfortable for solo diners.
